Overview

 

 As a software engineer with Watchfire, our team works with the latest Microsoft technologies to develop product software that will operate enormous LED displays and billboards. This software engineer will be focused on integration and testing of our production software that range from embedded systems to customer-facing front-end applications.

 

 

NOTE: Danville IL is 1.5 hours from Indy, 2.5 from Chicagoland, 3.5 from St. Louis.

The systems integration and testing engineer works within the software engineering group, to ensure that software systems, sub-systems and components are successfully integrated across hardware systems and meet the specified requirements. Establishes correctness, completeness and security of software systems assuring their quality and identifying potential improvement opportunities. S/he selects and sets up a measurement framework characterizing software viability attributes, according to objectively quantified notions of software quality. S/he recommends system integration application implementation strategies, selecting suitable component technologies and platforms. S/he participates in designing custom integration tests, reviewing functional specifications to identify open issues. S/he selects and configures all necessary hardware and operating environments, at the appropriate level of automation and virtualization, as needed to efficiently complete all testing tasks. An individual at this level will research and implement simulators and emulators to support testing.  S/he will be an expert in one or more scripting languages. S/he will be or grow to be a technical expert on testing methodologies and have experience and expertise in a wide range of automated software testing tools. General project assignments come from the Functional Manager but work may be assigned and technical supervision may come through more experienced Engineering members and/or Project Managers.  Individuals at this level make strong independent contributions. S/he also assures compliance to department/company established procedures and processes.

 

Responsibilities

  • Help create and review system and software requirements.
  • Prepare test cases to perform verification and validation of software.
  • Help integrate various software and hardware components to prepare a test environment that mirrors production as close as possible.
  • Help create and manage a software test lab infrastructure.
  • Execute test cases and generate test summary reports.
  • Report defects using a defect tracking system.
  • Working closely with software engineers and other cross-functional team members to help test software.
  • Manage the Continuous Integration (CI) build system.
  • Provide level 2 engineering support for production and field issues and coordinate with senior engineers, a response plan for field/production issues.
  • Occasionally work on creating internal support software applications using an approved stack.
  • Follow relevant company procedures and help create and maintain relevant documentation.

Required Education/Qualifications

Required Education/Qualification:

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical or a related discipline STRONGLY preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of software engineering experience either designing and developing software or in a software QA role.
  • Strong knowledge of computers and networks.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Passion for testing and improving product quality.
  • Proficiency in or ability to learn scripting languages (like python or groovy).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Visio.

 

Other ideal skills include:

  • Experience and/or good understanding of tracking software quality metrics.
  • Familiarity with various testing methodologies and automated testing tools (including automated tools for web and client-server application testing).
  • Familiarity with testing embedded systems software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile product development methodology is a plus.
