    Watchfire Signs headquarters is in Danville, IL - 2.5 hours from Chicago, 1.5 from Indianapolis, 1/2 hour from Champaign/Urbana and University of Illinois.

    The Human Resources Manager reports to our CEO, is a critical part of our HR team, and a very highly valued resource to our entire management organization including our executive team. This position will have direct reports and manages key areas of HR, to include interaction with our comprehensive HR support vendor, leave and compliance management, policy management, and employee relations. 

    The HR team is crucial to supporting our most valuable resource - our staff of over 350 employees, nearly all here in Danville, IL, in roles ranging from engineering to service, from electronics manufacturing to creative arts. We have an exceptional working relationship with our union team, as well as our non-union staff in all areas of the organization.


    • Provide exceptional design, recommendation, implementation and support to our managers and employees for policies and processes at every opportunity;
    • Work with and through our outside vendor, ADP's Comprehensive HR and Leave Management teams, provide world class guidance, policy and relationship development, and manage compliance issues including: W/C, FMLA, ADA, short term disability management, and investigations (Anonymous Hotline, etc.);
    • Build positive relationships with employees at all levels, beginning with leading the new hire orientation process;
    • Embrace continuous improvement / LEAN approach to process development/improvement and documentation.
    • Plus, anticipated growth into other areas of HR, including compensation management, union relations, or other key areas;

    Required Education/Qualifications

      • MS degree In HR highly preferred;
      • BS degree in Human Resources, ILR, organizational management, or similarly related area, also considered.
      • Continuing education within the ever-changing areas of HR compliance required.
    • EXPERIENCE: 5+ years work experience in HR is REQUIRED;
      • Experience in a complex multi-state, mixed union/non-union environment a plus;
      • Experience with compliance areas such as FMLA/ADA, Workers Compensation, leave management, employee relations investigations required; experience interfacing from internal employees to external shared services resource ideal.
      • Sincere passion for culture and relationships, combined with similar passion for details, process improvement, and accuracy required;
      • Clear comfort with working in gray areas', where balancing the people dynamic with precedent/policy/consistency is as natural as pouring a cup of coffee;
      • A passion for being 'the face of HR', the person every supervisor feels comfortable sitting down with and who easily creates a safe space where confidentiality and trust are never questioned, being an employee advocate when appropriate while properly balancing a focus of what is best for the growth of the company and best for every other employee even when this employee can only see through his paradigm;
      • Exceptional time management and organizational skills required, with a drive for working in a fast paced, dynamic growing team that has a "5-year-old start-up feel" but an 85+ year history;
      • Upper level Excel, Word, Outlook skills, with desire and aptitude to grow -- Advanced skills preferred;
      • Ability to multitask fluidly and thrive upon working independently on varied projects, while also an integral part of the team;
      • Exceptional levels of professionalism, courtesy and confidentiality at all times;
      • Exceptional professional communication with all levels, from entry level factory candidates through executives;
      • Ability to follow complex directions through varied multi-step processes with minimal repeat instruction.
